The Apollo International Hotel development is a $7M, 43 room additions to an existing 50 room hotel in Charlestown. The new room type is predominantly studio style guestrooms with a small number of one bedroom dual occupancy rooms. In addition to the new guestrooms, an upgrade to the existing guestrooms, gymnasium, conference facilities and the associated services were also required. The combined development involved the need for significant effort to upgrade existing services, accommodate car parking, provide bushfire compliance and establish site works.
The architectural approach responds to the client’s desire to create a new identity for the Apollo International Hotel. Situated on the Pacific Highway Charlestown, the design seeks to capitalise on the site’s dynamic context. Movement is captured and reflected in the composition of the building forms and the detail of the facades, while the material and colour selections respond to the guestroom’s private bushland aspect.
